Joey Jordison, Co-Founder and Drummer of Slipknot, Dies at 46 Celebsgraphy

Joey Jordison, co-founder and original drummer of the American Nu-Metal band Slipknot, has died. According to a statement released from the deceased drummer’s family, the artist had died “peacefully in his sleep.” No causes or illnesses were revealed to the public.

THE REASON FOR DEATH REMAINS A MYSTERY

“We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, prolific drummer, musician, and artist, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26, 2021. He was 46,” the statement read. “Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow. To those that knew Joey understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart, and his love for all things family and music. The family of Joey has asked that friends, fans, and media understandably respect our need for privacy and peace at this tough time. The family will hold a private funeral service and asks the media and public to respect their wishes.”

Tributes started pouring in from around the world, with the entire rock music community shocked by the early demise of who was considered one of the most prolific drummers of the era. Bands and artists started changing their profile pictures on social media to a plain black background to honor the drummer’s contribution to music.

Slipknot

FOUNDING SLIPKNOT AND EVENTUAL LEAVE

With their faces covered in gory masks and playing music that was shocking even for the heavy metal genre, Slipknot made a name for themselves as a “Nu-Metal” band who had a different sound than any other band. Corey Taylor’s growls and contrasting soft vocals fit perfectly with the band’s music, and their albums are ranked highly by fans worldwide.

Coming from Des Moines, Iowa, in the 1990s, their first self-titled album “Slipknot” was certified Platinum in the US, Canada, and the UK. Jordison, an evident member of the band, didn’t just only play drums but was also a prolific songwriter. His music relied on his pummeling rhythms and endurance, and he was a member of Slipknot from their formation in 1995 to 2013.  Although disputes surround his departure, Joey had said that he was fired from the band, whereas Slipknot stated that he left voluntarily.

After that, on May 5, 2016, Jordison announced that he had launched a new band under his leadership called Vimic. And the same year, he announced that he was also a part of a new extreme metal band called Sinsaenum, fronted by Mayhem’s vocalist Attila Csihar.

SUCCESS WITH SLIPKNOT

By the early 2000s, Slipknot was one of the biggest and most popular metal bands globally, and their third album, “Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses,” won them their first Grammy Awards in 2006. However, after releasing their fourth studio album, “All Hope is Gone,” Slipknot’s internal issues surface. With bassist Paul Gray dying from a drug overdose in 2010, the band was in dilemma whether to continue. Deciding to resume touring the following year, they started working on a new album in 2013 and released “.5: The Gray Chapter” in 2014, six years after they had launched their fourth.

TRIBUTES FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Millions of fans and fellow musicians worldwide paid tribute on social media following news of Jordison’s death, describing him as one of the best musicians that ever lived.

Serj Tankian, the frontman from System of a Down, described him as an “amazing drummer and a fantastic guy.”

Meat Heafy, singer of heavy metal band Trivium, mentioned how the late drummer “changed the face of heavy music on the planet as we know it.”

His bandmate, drummer for Trivium, Alex Bent, said he was lost for words at the news. “To call him an inspiration would be an understatement,” he Tweeted. “Countless hours studying every move behind the kit. I owe so much to Joey Jordison and could never imagine being where I am today without his influence.”, he continued.

Singer and songwriter Frank Turner called Jordison an “incredible musician.”

“46 is no age. RIP,” he posted on his social media.

BEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD

In August 2010, Joey Jordison was voted the best drummer of the last 25 years. In addition, he was voted by 6,500 drummers worldwide to be the best Metal Drummer ever and was granted the Drummies Award. “I’m at a loss for words. This is beyond unbelievable. Something like this reminds me every day why I continue to do this.”, he had stated.

His masterclass in songs like Disasterpiece, The Heretic Anthem, and Psychosocial by Slipknot is what makes his true skills known to the audience.

BATTLING NEURO DISORDER

In 2016 Jordison revealed that he was suffering from acute transverse myelitis and said that the symptoms had started to surface as early as 2010. Eventually, this neurological disorder led to the dysfunction of his legs, and he could no longer play drums. Thankfully, Joey had recovered with medical help and intensive physical workout and rehabilitation in the gym. However, it could be possible that the drummer’s death was induced by the onset of a similar disorder that the family has chosen to keep hidden from the public for the moment.

We wish the Jordison family to find the strength to battle these tough times. And will remember Joey as the icon of metal music that will live on for generations.
