Man 'murdered by fiance' died from stab wound to his chest after collapsing in street

A man who was allegedly murdered by his fiancée before being found on a road in South West London died after he was stabbed in the chest, an inquest has heard. Samuel Mayo, 34, was seen staggering into the middle of Lower Richmond Road at 9.45pm whilst shouting for an ambulance.

A member of the public who was travelling in a car spotted Samuel and contacted the emergency services. A towel was used to stem the flow of bleeding from his chest, and his appearance was described as “grey” before it appeared that he had stopped breathing. He was rushed to hospital, but tragically died shortly after 10:30pm.

Following a post-mortem examination, a Home Office pathologist gave the provisional cause of death as 1a) Sharp force trauma to the chest. Today (Monday, September 12), an inquest opened at West London Coroners Court and senior investigating officer DCI Garth Hall said: “Police were called to the location by London Ambulance Service. London Ambulance Service had been called by witnesses who had come across an injured male on Lower Richmond Road Junction with Rosemary Road."

“London Ambulance Service attended and he was taken to Kingston Hospital," they added. "Life was pronounced extinct at 22:33pm.” His fiancee Blaze Wallace, 27-year-old former law graduate, was arrested a short while later after police visited the flat they shared in Richmond."

A letter from Ms Katherine Gould of the Crown Prosecution Service stated: “The Met Police services has provided the CPS with a file of evidence concerning the death of Samuel Mayo. Having reviewed the evidence, Blaze Wallace has been charged with the offence of murder and is next due to attend the Central Criminal Court on the 11th of October 2022 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

“In view of the criminal proceedings, please adjourn the inquest into the death of Samuel Mayo until the conclusion of the criminal prosecution.” During her last appearance on July 26, an emotional Wallace was remanded into custody before shouting “Love you all” to her family members who had gathered in the public gallery.

Adjourning the inquest to a later date, Assistant Coroner Anton van Dellen said: “I have no discretions and I must suspend the investigation into the death as I have been requested to do so by the CPS. I now suspend the investigation into the death of Samuel Mayo. Before I do so, may I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Samuel Mayo and particularly to his mother for her very sad loss.”

Wallace will next appear at the Old Bailey on October 11.
